I have a Surface Pro 4, Windows 10 Pro, 10.0.17763 build 17763 with a type cover; yesterday the keyboard stopped working. I have read that this is not a new issue for Surface Pro users but was a first for me.
Something had caused it to crash when I was using it earlier in the day and I had to do a hard shut down, but the keyboard was still working restarted.
I did what was suggested in several different websites and uninstalled the keyboard in the Device Manager on the assumption that it would be reinstalled when I restarted; it was not.
I called Tweakbit because I needed the driver reinstalling; Michael spent about 90 minutes checking before eventually telling me everything was working fine from their point of view and I should take it to my local technician. He didn’t seem to be searching for a driver but
I then found a number of apparently useful suggestions on various other websites to try and I tried them all. I typed some of the freeware names into Google (I had never heard this term before) but they seemed to be up-to-date.
I went into the UEFI (BIOS) where the touchpad worked though the keyboard did not work. The touchpad does not work otherwise. This would indicate that the connection is okay
Fortunately, it still functions as a tablet and I have an old HP which I am using now.
I found in a Google search the Microsoft download centre with this description:
30 Jan 2019 - All current software, firmware, and drivers for the Surface Pro 4; including optional WinTab drivers
I read somewhere that they should match the build but the ones given don’t appear to. Here they are. I’d be very grateful for advice on which one to choose as there isn’t a 17763. Thank you so much for reading this.
